Billy Carter first established Carter’s Clutch and Brake Service at East Maitland in 1978. Billy’s philosophy was to supply the best clutch and brake components at the best price with an impeccable level of service.
These principles have remained over the years and are preserved by Stephen and Kathryn Gibb who acquired the business in 2001.
Stephen, who completed his apprenticeship under Billy Carters’ direction in 1989, has grown the Carter’s business adapting to the changing needs of the automotive parts market.
As parts for older and unique vehicles and equipment became more difficult and expensive to source, in 2010 Carter’s invested in new manufacturing equipment to custom-make clutch, brake, throttle and control cables as well as ADR approved rubber and braided brake hoses. The ability to replicate almost any cable or hose at a significantly lower cost to sourcing new has delivered customers not only savings, but contributed to the longevity of older or even obsolete vehicles and machinery.
In 2014, Carter’s embarked on an expansion plan with the demand to be closer to a growing geographical customer base across Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
Celebrating almost 40 years, Stephen and Kathryn lead a team of 18 staff across two stores. All staff are committed to build upon the knowledge and impeccable service Carter’s are renowned for.
